Plate Tectonics refers to the geological processes that physically construct and shape the surface of planet Earth. Plate tectonics has not only formed the continents through the construction of continental crust but it has over millenia moved them, produced collisions and built our mountains. Plate tectonics is also capable of producing the most violent and destructive physical events.

"To witness the eruption of a volcano is to witness the creation and destruction of the earth at the same time".
Dr. David A Johnston December 1949 - May 18, 1980
